Iranian police give zero attention to the alarming drug using and trafficking in its Kurdish region, sources inside the region talked to Avatoday on condition of anonymity.

According to the reports received by Avatoday dealers are now distributing drugs among school students without being subject to any police investigation or legal punishment.

A citizen from Kurdish city of Saqez, who spoke to Avatoday on condition of anonymity, said: “We don't dare to report people who are selling drugs in front of the school doors or even in Terminals, because they might be agents within the security forces.”

Official statistics in 2017 stated that the number of drug users in Iran is estimated at 8 million with Kurdish region on top of the list.

According to the experts, the high number of drug users in Iranian Kurdistan is due to the high rate of unemployment and the government’s own policy to ignore the problem and turning the region to a drug trafficking zone.
