Former Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has threatened the Islamic Republic's leader Ali Khamenei that he would boycott the elections if they did not accept him as a presidential candidate.
"If I am designated as disqualified, I will not participate (vote) in the elections, and I will not support it. They have disqualified me twice before, but I was considerate, and I remained silent out of respect for the people, the (Islamic) revolution, and the country. But I have announced that if they rejected me this time again, I will definitely not participate and will not support the elections," Ahmadinejad said in a recent video.
Mahmoud Ahmadinejad served as the president of the Islamic Republic of Iran from 2005 to 2013.
He planned to run for office again in 2016 but was reportedly advised by Ali Khamenei not to do so. He later registered as a presidential candidate for Iran's 2017 elections but was disqualified by the regime's Guardian Council.
Ahmadinejad registered himself again for the upcoming election.
