Afghanistan’s Foreign Ministry said it is investigating claims that tens of Afghan migrants drowned after being tortured and thrown into a river by Iranian border authorities.

Iran has been refusing the claims since the accusation spread out in the media.

Several videos published on social media show “eyewitnesses” who claim Iranian guards tortured at least 50 people and thrown some of them into river.

According to the people appeared in the video, some bodies were found while others are still missing.

The Afghan migrants were trying to enter Iran illegally from Afghanistan’s western province of Herat on Friday, according to local media.

Reuters reported that authorities in the Herat province said they retrieved 12 bodies from the water, but eight people are still missing.

Some reports claimed that at least 70 migrants are believed to have been attempting to cross the Afghan-Iranian border.
