A delegation of senior Hamas officials had visited Tehran on Saturday, hoping for further financial and military supports from the Islamic Republic of Iran, ISNA reported.
The delegation was heading by Hamas deputy chief Saleh al-Arouri, who is also the organization’s commander of military wing in West Bank.
Hamas media have described the visit “significant,” and Ismail Haniyeh, the leader of Hamas, said he expects “important results.”
The delegation also includes, Musa Abumazruq, Hesam Badran, Maher Salah, Ahmad Abdel Hadi and a group of other senior Hamas officials.
There were reports claiming that Hamas officials had met with their Iranian counterparts a day earlier on Friday at the Iranian embassy in Beirut.
The visit of the Hamas delegation, which considered as the second largest regional proxies of Iran after Hezbollah, coincided with the escalation of tensions between Tehran and western powers especially US and UK over the seizure of British oil tanker in the Strait of Hormuz BY Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps.
on Sunday the delegation had reportedly met with Kamal Kharrazi, the Head of Iran's Foreign Policy Strategic Council.
According to ISNA news outlet, during the meeting Kharrazi said, “there is a good relationship between Iran and Hamas, which is growing. The nature of this visit illustrates that our friends in Palestine still can count on Islamic Republic’s supports.”
Iran is heavily investing in its proxies across the region, while dealing with a major financial crisis inside the country.
Iranian senior officials have promised that their proxies called as “resistance front” will be on Iran’s side in case of any conflict; something that Hezbollah’s leader Hassan Nasrallah has also emphasized on during a recent speech.
The Islamic Republic of Iran does not publish details of its military support for Hamas, Hezbollah or other proxies, though Iran’s supreme leader Ali Khamenei has said that the state will help any groups and individuals, who stand against Israel.
