Egyptian Attorney General Nabil Sadek has requested the death penalty for Ex-President, Mohamad Morsi, and several members of the Muslim Brotherhood for passing state secrets on to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), VOA Persian reported on Monday.
The group have been accused of “leaking Egypt’s defensive secrets to foreign governments and their partners, financial support of terrorism, military training aimed at obtaining the Muslim Brotherhood’s agenda, and conducting activities destroying independency and unity of Egypt.”
According to the report Morsi had been warned at the time of his presidency by security forces over the Muslim Brotherhood’s espionage activities with the IRGC.
According to the recent proposal for Morsi’s punishment, his partners inside the government had been sending information to IRGC, Hamas, and Hezbollah, resulting in a negative impact of Egypt’s diplomatic relations with other countries.
Morsi's one-year presidency began in 2012 following the revolution. This period was highly troubled as Morsi was abusing his unlimited power. His rule was ended by a military coup in 2013 and he has been on trial several times since then.
