US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said he would go to Tehran and directly talk with Iranians if needed, foreign media reported on Friday.
In an interview with Bloomberg, Pompeo announced that he has the willing to appear in Iranian television and directly explain to the people of Iran the reasons behind US sanctions against the Islamic Republic.
“I would welcome the chance to speak directly to the Iranian people…about what it is their leadership has done and how it has harmed Iran,” he answered a question by Bloomberg about whether he is willing to go to Tehran if needed.
Pompeo’s remark follows a recent Iranian test firing of a medium-range ballistic missile, which raised global concern.
Washington has blamed Tehran for increasing tensions and destabilizing the strait of Hormuz by attacking several oil tankers and seizing two commercial ships in the past month.
