The European Union says Iran, a group of European countries, Russia and China will hold virtual talks on April 2 about the possible return of the United States to a 2015 nuclear deal.

The move was welcomed by the Biden administration, which said it was ready to take "mutual steps" to return to the nuclear deal.

The virtual meeting will be attended by the parties to the deal which include representatives of China, France, Germany, Russia, Britain, and Iran.

"Participants will discuss the prospect of a possible return of the United States to the" deal, the EU said in a statement

They will also discuss "how to ensure the full and effective implementation of the agreement by all sides," it added.

The US State department on Thursday welcomed the announcement of the meeting.
