An Iranian Kurdish political activist and asylum seeker was handed over by the security forces of the Patriotic Union of Iraqi Kurdistan to the agents of the Intelligence Department of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

On Tuesday, September 3, 2024, Behzad Khosravi, from Saqqez, was taken to Basmakh border by the peace forces of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan in Sulaymaniyah, and from there he was handed over to Iranian intelligence agents.

This Kurdish political activist, who officially holds the card of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, was arrested and tortured by the security agents of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan two weeks ago after publishing a post from the live program of Ali Javanmardi, one of the opposition leaders of the Islamic Republic.

Avatoday condemns this betrayal, which has been repeated many times, and considers the leadership of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan to the responsibel of Jan Behzad Khosravi.

Avatoday also wants the US State Department, the European Union and the United Nations to react to this inhumane treatment of Iranian Kurdish political asylum seekers, which has been repeated many times.

It should be noted that four years ago, Mustafa Salimi, a Kurdish political prisoner who had escaped from Saqqez prison in Iran and sought refuge in Iraqi Kurdistan, was arrested by the Patriotic Union of Iraqi Kurdistan and handed over to Iran. After a short time, he was executed by the Iranian government.
