A new amendment passed by the Supreme Cultural Revolution Council prevents Iranian students from participating in any political and social movements.
The amendment which is imposed on universities since April allowed university officials to punish students if they attend any political events or even participate in online activities.
The move came after the arrest of hundreds of students during the mass protests across the country in the past three years.
Student rights activist and lawyer Mohammad Ali Kamfirouzi told E’temad website on Monday that, “the new regulations are introduced under pressures from outside [the academic circles], and that has allowed strict behavior against the students’ political activities.”
Earlier this year, Jamasb Nozari the director of governmental Academic Affairs Organization, told the state-run Iran Students News Agency (ISNA), “publishing unethical photos or committing immoral acts in cyberspace and on social media will lead to disciplinary action against students.”
