The Islamic Republic Has Buried Some Protesters Alive

Evidence and direct testimonies from several families in the cities of Tehran, Arak, and Isfahan indicate that some detained and injured protesters were buried while they were still alive.

During the identification of their loved ones’ bodies, these families specifically observed faint movement of the chest, weak breathing, and very limited vital signs in some of the bodies.

These observations occurred under conditions of intense security pressure, where families were allowed to view the bodies only briefly and were denied any independent medical examination or autopsy.

Immediately after identification, the bodies were either not handed over, or the families were forced to carry out immediate, nighttime burials without any funeral ceremony.

Given that between January 10 and January 13, a large number of bodies were buried secretly, at night, and in groups, it becomes evident that some protesters—while unconscious or barely alive—were buried alive. This was not an isolated mistake, but part of an organized pattern by the Islamic Republic to conceal its crimes.

The rushed burials, prevention of registering the real cause of death, threats against families, bans on mourning ceremonies, and the elimination of any possibility for independent documentation all demonstrate that the authorities have deliberately sought to erase evidence of these crimes.

What has occurred is not merely a violation of human rights; it is an explicit crime against humanity.

Burying protesters alive is one of the most horrifying forms of state قتل carried out by a government, and direct responsibility for it lies with the security, judicial, and political structures of the Islamic Republic.

The families of the victims and human rights activists emphasize that this crime will not be forgotten, and that the truth will be documented and pursued, with or without the cooperation of the government.
