Iranian female football fan set herself on fire in protest of six-month imprisonment for entering stadium.
Sahar, an Iranian female football fan set herself on fire earlier this week in front of Tehran’s prosecutor office in protesting her six months jail-sentence over entering Azadi Football Stadium.
According to her sister Sahar was arrested in March while she disguised as a male spectator trying to enter Tehran’s Azadi Stadium.
"They detained my sister on March 12, 2019, when she tried to enter Azadi Stadium, and watch Tehran's Esteqlal soccer club home match against the United Arab Emirates' Al Ain, FC,” her sister told state-run Rokna news agency.
Sahar was later freed on bail until her trial on September 1, when she was sentenced to six months of prison on charge of “insulting the public by defying the dress code for women.” She set herself on fire after she was informed on her sentence.
"The 29-year-old is suffering from third-degree burns, and currently under life support," Rokna quoted Mustafa Dehmardi, the head of emergency department at Motahari hospital in Tehran.
Standing against regulations set by the International Football Federation FIFA, the Islamic regime of Iran has prohibited women from entering football stadiums Since 1979 Islamic Revolution.
FIFA threatened Iran to be removed from all International soccer matches unless it paves the way for women to enter stadiums until October.
