Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohamad Javad Zarif immediately responded to Thursday’s suspected attacks on two foreign oil tankers in Gulf of Oman, which caused high alert for many countries including Kuwait and US.

The Iranian Minister called for a regional talk in order to “avoid tensions,” hours after the oil carriers were ablaze.

At least one of the targeted tanker was reportedly from Japan and the attack came as Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is in Tehran to mediate between Iran and US.

Iran’s Zarif tweeted that “suspicious doesn’t begin to describe what likely transpired this morning.

“Iran’s proposed Regional Dialogue Forum is imperative,” he concluded.

White House has also released a statement on the matter, and announced that they will investigate the situation.

European Union is reportedly called for “maximum restraint,” while USAF KC135R Gold76 departed toward Persian Gulf.

Kuwait has also put its own oil facilities on high alert.

Earlier last month, a similar attack has been carried out against four oil tankers in the region, damaged by limpet mines. The US experts and Saudi Arabia accused Tehran and its proxies of targeting the tankers at that time.

The price of oil has reportedly witnessed an increase of 4 percent after the attacks.

According to Reuters the exact details of Thursday’s incident were not immediately clear, but there are reports claiming that one of the ship was hit by a torpedo and the other one damaged by a magnetic mine.
