Riyadh has called on Saturday for emergency meetings of the regional Gulf Cooperation Council and the Arab League aim at discussing Iran threats and tensions, the Kingdom’s official news agency reported.

According to the agency, Saudi Arabia’s King Salman has invited the Gulf leaders to two summits in Mecca on May 30.

The regional states have been invited to discuss Iran’s recent aggressions and their consequences,” in the region, the report said.

Tensions are increasing between US and Iran, with Washington deploying a navy carrier strike group to the Middle East as it is receiving frequent threatening messages from Iranian authorities.

Saudi’s Foreign Affairs Minister Adel al-Jubeir has declared that his country is not planning any war with Iran, but will defend its own interests.

“We don’t want a war in any way, but at the same time we won’t allow Iran to continue its hostile policies toward the Kingdom,” the Foreign Minister told Reporters early Sunday Morning.
