A U.S. official confirmed in an interview with Voice of America that negotiations between Iran and the United States will be held on Thursday in Geneva. The official did not provide further details about the content of the talks.
On the previous day, Badr Albusaidi, Foreign Minister of Oman, had also announced that the next round of negotiations between the United States and the Islamic Republic would take place on Thursday in Geneva.
His remarks came hours after Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s Foreign Minister, said it was possible he would meet with Steve Witkoff, the U.S. Special Envoy, on the same day.
Albusaidi wrote on social media on Sunday: “I am pleased to confirm that U.S.–Iran talks are now scheduled for this Thursday in Geneva, with a positive effort to take another step toward finalizing an agreement.”
Oman has previously hosted indirect negotiations concerning Iran’s nuclear program and also played a facilitating role in the most recent round of talks in Geneva last week.
