Pro- Tehran armed group of Hezbollah in Lebanon released a statement on Thursday, blasting Americans for arresting Iranian TV presenter who was detained by US police on Sunday.
The group has criticized “US institution’s insult to behavioral and social values,” Iran’s official news agency, IRNA, reported.
Shiite group of Hezbollah backed by Iran, is accused of conducting a number of terrorist acts and bombings against Jewish community and Israel targets. It is considered as a terrorist organization by West, Israel, Arab nations Gulf countries and Arab League.
Iranian authorities claimed that American police forced the detained journalist to remove her Hijab, a claim which has yet to be approved.
Marziyeh Hashemi was arrested at St. Louis Lambert International Airport, but no formal charges have so far been made against her.
Iran said Hashemi was converted to Islam since the Islamic Revolution in 1979. Officials claimed that she was visiting her family in US, when arrested.
A source told Avatoday on condition of anonymity that Hashemi, whose original name is Melanie Franklin, and was born in New Orleans and is arrested due to her involvement in “suspicious activities,” which are unrelated to her carrier as a journalist.
