People in the earthquake-zone of Iran’s Kermanshah faced further difficulties now as President, Hassan Rouhani decided to visit the area in the coming days, almost two years after the tragedy.
Sources inside the region talked to Avatoday in condition of anonymity and reported that the security officials forced people to leave their cabins, recollect them and cut the electricity for the same purpose last night, aiming at preparing the area for the president’s delegation.
According to the sources, officials are hoping to misinform the President by showing him empty area as a proof that all houses are already renovated and people are no longer live in cabins, a scenario which is far from reality.
“The municipality and governorate of Sarpol Zahab started to cut the electricity of those cabins and they evacuated them, though people are still living in them,” a source in Sarpol Zahab municipality told Avatoday on condition of anonymity.
An earthquake with a magnitude of 7.3 stroked Iran’s Kermanshah Province on November 12, 2017. It is estimated that 600 to 700 people were killed, and more than 10,000 injured. Meanwhile according to unofficial statistics at least 2,000 people were killed and more than 10,000 injured.
“They have been making the cabins empty in the city’s entrance and collect them all, ahead of President Hassan Rouhani’s visit. Of course, this is to illustrate that all the damaged and destroyed housed are renovated and people are living in their own houses,” he said.
Video footages received by Avatoday Shows thousands of houses still under construction and the owners either live in cabins or in tents.
The victims made a complaint on July 25, 2018 that the government has not fulfilled its promises and people are still living in ruins.
