Clashes erupted in the city of Yasuj, in southwest Iran, between the locals and Iranian security forces, after people took to the streets to protest the results of the city council elections on Sunday.
The protests broke out in the city over claims of rigged city council elections, and lasted for two days, sources told Avatoday.
More than 100 people were arrested amid the protests according to the local reports citing authorities in Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad province.
Videos released online show a heavy security presence in the city, with forces parading around town in riot control vehicles, on motorbikes, and on foot, keeping people off the streets and displaying force.
One footage shows people being forced into police cars, and security forces marching in the streets, throwing stones at buildings, banging on house doors, and shooting towards protesters.
There are reports of people being severely beaten and injured by the security forces, and allegedly three individuals have been killed.
The province's chief of the police, Kayghobad Mostafaei, has denied the killings, and has warned, "The police will deal with those intending to disrupt the mental and psychological security of society decisively and legally."
The city council elections were held across Iran on Friday June 18, the same day as the presidential election.
