Iraqi protesters on Wednesday night set Iranian Consulate in Najaf on fire, taking control of the compound.

According to videos published on social media the compound of the consulate was burned down by angry protesters, who are asking immediate stop to Iran’s interference in their country.

Demonstrators published a footage, showing documents that indicated Tehran’s consulate was interfering in Najaf’s International airport affairs.

“All of the imports of Najaf airport are under control of Iran, what connection does Iran’s consulate have with Najaf airport?” asked a protester inside the torched consulate.

In another video taken outside of the consulate, a protester shouted: “Now Iranian consulate is under the control of the people, heroes (Iraqi) brought down Iranian flag. Khamenei, look how we burned your flag and photos, get out of our country.”

Thousands of Iraqis took the streets since early October, protesting against corruption, low-quality of life and foreign countries’ interferences.

Islamic Republic of Iran in highly blamed for interfering and supporting terrorist groups in Iraq.
