According to a report received by Avatoday, on the evening of Tuesday, December 16, 2025, two Kurdish citizens from Bukan, identified as Ebrahim Mardani and Rasoul Yadyar, were arrested by forces of Iran’s Intelligence Ministry and transferred to an unknown location.
These two Kurdish citizens were detained without the presentation of a judicial warrant by intelligence forces.
So far, no information has been made available regarding the reasons for their arrest, the possible charges against them, or their place of detention.
Avatoday has learned that Ebrahim Mardani has a history of multiple arrests due to his cultural activities and wearing traditional Kurdish clothing. Among these cases, on May 3, 2025, following the attendance of guests wearing “earth-colored Kurdish attire” at his child’s wedding ceremony, he was arrested without a warrant and transferred to an unknown location.
He was also previously arrested on July 8, 2019, when Iranian security forces raided his home without a warrant, initially transferring him to an undisclosed location before moving him to Bukan Prison on July 27, 2019.
Repression in Kurdistan, as part of a long-standing and structural policy, has continued for years with varying intensity and forms, profoundly affecting the daily lives of citizens.
The heavy presence of security and military forces, arbitrary arrests, harsh judicial sentences, and intimidation and pressure against political, civil, cultural, and labor activists have created an atmosphere of fear and insecurity.
Kurdish citizens are frequently confronted with vague security-related accusations, and their legitimate demands for equality, social justice, and fundamental rights are met with repression—reflecting widespread human rights violations and the systematic marginalization of the region’s population.
