The United States on Wednesday imposed sanctions on two Iranian networks that evaded international sanctions and earn millions of dollars for Iranian government and its military, the Treasury Department released in a statement.

“One network, led by Hamed Dehghan, has used a Hong Kong-based front company to evade US and international sanctions and facilitate tens of millions of dollars’ worth of proliferation activities targeting US technology and electronic components, for persons related to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and the Iranian regime’s missile program,” the statement elaborated.

On May 2018, US President Donald Trump withdrew from Iran nuclear treaty with world powers and re-imposed new rounds of sanctions on Tehran.

The sanctions are part of Washington’s “maximum pressure” policy against Iran, hoping to change the Islamic Republic’s behavior in the region. Iranian agents and companies have been trying to evade these sanctions since then.

“The second network, led by Seyed Hossein Shariat, has procured various aluminum alloy products on behalf of components entities owned or controlled by Iran’s Ministry of Defence and Armed Forces Logistics (MODAFL),” said the Treasury Department.

“As the Iranian regime attempts to use complex schemes to hide its efforts to bolster its WMD program, the US government will continue to thwart them at every turn,” the statement added.
