At least four people from Iran’s city of Behbahan and another citizen from the Kurdish city of Sanandaj reported dead as security forces harshly attacked peaceful protesters who took the street on Saturday morning over a petrol price hike in the county.

Eyewitness reported the death of five citizens during the protests. Avatoday cannot independently confirm the human casualties, but numbers of videos received by the agency show that a heavy clash is going on between the protesters and the security forces.

Gunshots can be hearing in these videos, showing the crowd streets of several cities including Sanandaj and Behbahan, where the deaths were reported.

The price of petrol tripled overnight as the Iranian government is struggling with severe economic and financial crisis.

Iranians on Saturday closed the streets of major cities including Tehran, Yazd, Babol, Tabriz, Shiraz, Bushehr, and Gorgan.

In the Kurdish region, civilians from major cities of Sanandaj, Saqez, and Mariwan have also stormed the streets.

University Students in the city of Orumiyeh boycotted classes and gathered to show their support.
