US State Department on Tuesday has warned Greek government against an Iranian oil tanker, which is sailing toward Greece after being released by Gibraltar, WSJ reported.
“We have conveyed our strong position to the Greek government on the matter, as well as all ports in the Mediterranean that should be forwarded about facilitating this vessel,” said the State Department.
Earlier Iran has declared that its newly released oil tanker on Sunday is heading toward Greece.
The Supertanker was previously seized by UK navy in Gibraltar for violating European sanctions against Syria. Iran said its vessel has never planned to enter Syrian soil.
A court in Gibraltar ordered the release of Iranian ship despite US trying to stop the decision.
The vessel is carrying 2.1 million barrels of crude oil.
