Unnamed officials from Washington announced that Iran has test fired a Shahab-3 ballistic missile, Fox news reported on Friday.
Other news agency including CNN has published same reports today. The medium-range ballistic missile has been test fired by Iranians on Wednesday, according to CNN report.
Late Thursday Fox quoted a senior US administrational official, among others, on condition of anonymity saying that, “we are aware of reports of a projectile launched from Iran and have no further comment at this time.”
Another source has reportedly informed Fox that the lunch flew nearly 1000 kilometers from the Southern part of the country northward to an area close to Tehran, the capital of Islamic Republic of Iran.
Tensions have been rising between Washington and Tehran more than ever in the past few weeks since Iran seized an UK ship in the international waters.
US President Donald Trump and his administration have a special focus on Islamic Republic’s missile program. Washington is hoping to change Tehran’s behavior using sanctions.
Iran has previously announced that it will not negotiate its own missile program and will continue progressing, despite global concerns.
