The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced on Saturday, July 18, that two U.S. service members were killed in Jordan during Iranian missile and drone attacks carried out on Friday, July 17. CENTCOM also stated that another American service member remains missing.
In a statement published on its official X account, CENTCOM said: “On July 17, two U.S. service members in Jordan were killed while CENTCOM forces and their partners were defending against Iranian ballistic missile and drone attacks. One additional U.S. service member is currently missing.”
The statement also reported that four U.S. service members were wounded. They were treated at hospitals in Jordan and later released. Other personnel who were examined for minor injuries have returned to duty.
Over the past two days, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and the Iranian military had announced missile and drone attacks targeting military bases in Jordan.
CENTCOM did not disclose the exact location where the American personnel were killed and said that no further information, including the identities of the deceased, will be released until their next of kin have been notified.
