Iranian teachers, who have been recently employed by the government, gathered on Monday in front of the parliament protesting against “insufficient” salaries.
Two teachers who spoke to Avatoday on condition of anonymity said that their salaries have a significant difference with those who have been hired several years before them.
“According to the Sixth Development Plan (of Iranian parliament,) the maximum difference in payment of similar jobs should not exceed more than 20%,” one of the teachers said.
Iranian government has reportedly hired some 400,000 new teachers in recent years, but the protesters say that due to the severe financial crisis the three million tomans ($130) salary per month is not sufficient.
“There is a 300 percent difference in payment between recently hired teachers and the old ones,” the teacher said.
Iranian government is facing severe financial difficulties since 2018 after the US former president Donald Trump withdrew from the Iran nuclear deal with world powers and imposed new rounds of sanction on Tehran.
The two countries are currently negotiating to revive the deal.
