Iran’s special envoy for Afghanistan, Hassan Kazemi Qomi, will travel to Kabul on Monday to meet with the senior Taliban officials in Afghanistan, the country’s Mehr News Agency said.
“Embassy of Iran in Kabul in its Twitter account on Sunday night announced that Iranian President's special envoy for Afghanistan Hassan Kazemi Qomi is scheduled to travel to Kabul on Monday to discuss with the senior Taliban officials various issues including regional developments, refugees, humanitarian aid, the formation of an inclusive government, and especially economic issues in the country,” the report said.
During the Taliban’s first reign in power, Iran was among the group’s key opponents.
However, since the Taliban takeover of Kabul in 2021, Iran has been trying to deal with the group in a diplomatic way, with a significantly different orientation.
