As people rushed into the funeral of Iran’s Qassem Soleimani on Tuesday in the city of Kerman, at least 35 died and 213 others were killed due to eruption of a stampede, State TV confirmed the casualties.

Iran’s top general and commander of Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps's Quds forces Soleimani and Hezbollah chief Abu Mahdi Al Muhandis were killed in US strikes in Iraq on President Donald Trump’s order on Friday. The Tension between Washington and Tehran has raised since.

A source, who asked to remain unidentified, told Avatoday that the regime has not taken any security and safety measures as a part of preparation for this funeral.

“The regime wants as large number of people as possible to attend the funeral, so they provided free transportation and free meals to attract people from other cities to come to Kerman, where Soleimani will finally be buried,” the source explained.

According to his information, the regime has also organized Basiji forces all over the country to attend the funeral.

“But they have never thought about the safety of the participants. They knew it would be such a big crowd but they didn’t hesitate to provide safety,” the source criticized the authorities.

The stampede took place in Kerman, the hometown of Soleimani. Footage published online showing people lying lifeless in a road while others are shouting for help.
