Iranian lawmakers are preparing a draft of constitutional change under the name of “The Third Republic,” in a letter to the Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, a Parliament member told media.
According to the Iranian lawmaker, Mostafa Kovakebian, who is from the Reformist fraction, the letter is a request to “review the constitution from the Supreme Leader.”
According to the Iran’s law, any change in the constitution must be signed by the Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Khamenei.
Last year, Ali Larijani, the head of Iranian Parliament, announced that the Supreme Leader is seeking some structural changes.
Khamenei himself has been talking, in the past few years, about a possible switching from Presidential system to a parliamentary system in Iran.
