Mizan News Agency, affiliated with Iran's judiciary, identified the executed individuals as Javad Zamani and Abolfazl Saeedi, stating that they were executed on charges of "enmity against God" (moharebeh) and "corruption on earth."

This marks the first execution of protesters in Iran since Tehran and Washington announced an agreement to end the 40-day war.

In an official statement, Mohammad Sadegh Akbari, the head of the Justice Department of Semnan Province, claimed that the executed individuals had "destroyed and set fire to public and private property, carried and used cold and firearms, disrupted public order and security, engaged in assembly and collusion against national security, and committed other criminal acts" in the city of Shahroud.

He accused them of damaging "equipment and several bank branches" during the protests in Shahroud on January 7 and 8, 2026, and of "inciting unrest and riots outside the governor's office, overturning a police vehicle, and participating in setting it on fire."

The judicial official of the Islamic Republic stated that the trial of the two defendants had been conducted "in accordance with legal standards" and that their death sentences had been upheld by the Supreme Court.

However, the conditions under which the trial was held, their access to legal counsel, and whether they received a fair trial remain unclear. No details of their case had previously been made public.
