Videos published on social media show Iranian regimes’ fear of low turnout became real as voting stations for parliamentary election on Friday were largely empty.
An official from Interior Ministry told state TV that about 11 millions of 58 million eligible voters casted their votes until mid-afternoon on Friday. Unofficial reports noted that the real number of participants seems to be much lower.
Dozens were arrested for “selling their votes,” some local reports said on Friday.
Iran’s parliamentary election on Friday is expected to increase the power of hardliners, experts warned.
Some 58 million Iranians out of 83 million are eligible to vote for parliamentary election on Friday.
Low turnout was reported in Iran’s big cities including the Capital of the country, Tehran.
In addition, videos received by Avatoday on Friday show empty voting stations in most Kurdish cities and towns.
