US Special Representative for Iran Brian Hook on Thursday accused the Islamic Republic of Iran of killing more than 1000 protesters, arresting at least 7000 more and wounding thousands, Reuters reported.

“As the truth is trickling out of Iran, it appears the regime could have murdered over a thousand Iranian citizens since the protest begun,” Hook said during a briefing at the State Department.

He also noted that many children are among the victims, but decelerated that the exact number of those who have been killed by Iranian security remain unknown due to the government’s blockage of information.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump has also made a similar claim regarding the number of victims in the recent protests in Iran.

Thousands of Iranian protesters took the streets in about 150 various cities and towns in November. The nationwide protests started over fuel price hikes.
