Tehran will not reopen the 2015 nuclear deal with the United States’ new president Joe Biden and his administration, the spokesman for the country’s foreign ministry said in an interview.
Saeed Khatibzadeh said that "Iran has repeatedly stated that [the deal] is something of the past and cannot be reopened by anyone.”
He also slammed Americans for violating the deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action.
"The United States has violated UNSCR 2231 and has inflicted heavy losses on Iran, [which is] holding the United States responsible for its withdrawal, and Iran is in a position to demand that the United States be held accountable for its violation of international law against the Iranian people,” Khatibzadeh has claimed.
Iran has officially declined its commitment to the nuclear deal since May 2018, when US president Donald Trump withdrew from the deal and imposed new rounds of sanctions on Tehran.
Iran is highly accused of developing its military program including nuclear weapons despite global warnings. The country is also offering support to arm groups across the Middle East.
