The mother of Amirhossein Mousavi, a social media activist who has been detained since December 18, 2024, says that the broadcast of her son's alleged forced confession by Iran's state broadcaster has led to additional charges being brought against him, including "cooperation with hostile governments."

Speaking to the Emtedad website, Soraya Talebi said that the video aired on an Iranian television news program had been selectively edited and presented in a way that suggested "Amirhossein provided the enemy with information about certain locations and sites during the 12-day war and then sent them footage of those places," despite the fact that he was in prison at the time the war took place.

Amirhossein Mousavi, who was active on social media under the username "James B. Dean," previously published an open letter from Evin Prison stating that all allegations against him were "false and distorted." Mousavi wrote that after 148 days in solitary confinement, the detention of his wife, and threats of renewed torture, he was forced to participate in a coerced interview.

Talebi told Emtedad that the family has filed a complaint against the IRIB news program "20:30" as well as media outlets that republished the video, and that the complaint is currently under review.

She rejected allegations that her son had any connection or cooperation with Israel, saying that he had merely been active on social media.

Criticizing the uncertainty surrounding her son's detention, Talebi said: "My son has been detained since December 18, 2024, and new allegations and charges continue to be added to his case."

Other charges against Mousavi include "assembly and collusion against national security," "propaganda against the system," and "insulting religious sanctities."

Mousavi's lawyer announced that his trial is scheduled to take place on July 4 before Branch 15 of Tehran's Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Salavati.

Reza Shafakhah, Mousavi's lawyer in Tehran, had previously told Radio Farda that the allegations made in the televised confession broadcast by the Islamic Republic's state broadcaster were unfounded, emphasizing that his client had been detained solely because of his activities on social media.
