Hussein Dehghan, military advisor of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, on Tuesday, expressed his concern over Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) commanders taking more political positions in Iran.

“There cannot be an attempted military coup in this country. Due to the current conditions, armed forces would not be able to remove others and replace them with someone they prefer," Dehghan told ISNA news agency.

Dehghan has been nominated for the upcoming presidential election in Iran.

He also referred to the concerns about a plan of the IRGC forces to occupy political positions. But Dehghan added that acts of using military power to gain political positions are nearly impossible in the 21st century Iran.

Reports suggest several former military forces and IRGC commanders are expected to be nominated to Iran's presidential election in June.

Saeed Mohammad, the IRGC’s head of economic and engineering arm “Khatam al-Anbiya”, resigned on Sunday, raising speculation that he will run in the upcoming presidential elections.
