Kurdish cities and towns across Iranian Kurdistan (Rojhalat) held general strikes on Tuesday in condemnation of the recent execution of four Kurdish prisoners by Iranian authorities, and death penalty.
Tehran on Monday carried out the death sentence of four Kurdish political prisoners, Mohsen Mazloum, Mohammad Faramarzi, Vafa Azarbar, and Pejman Fatehi.
General strikes were held in protest of the executions in at least 12 Kurdish cities, according to Hengaw Organization for Human Rights.
Families reported that Iranian authorities are refusing to hand over the prisoners’ bodies to them.
Videos also depicted large numbers of people visiting the houses of the executed prisoners’ families in Bukan, Dehgolan, Kamyaran, and Mahabad to pay their respects and express solidarity with them.
The four men were arrested in Urmia, West Azerbaijan, on 22 June 2022 and have been held incommunicado ever since. They reportedly were tortured into delivering forced confessions broadcasted by state media. Ultimately, the Tehran Revolutionary Court, following proceedings marred by serious violations of fair trial and due process standards, sentenced them all to death for moharebeh (enmity against god) and efsad-fil-arz (corruption on earth) on alleged espionage charges for Israel.
