The head of the Iranian Medical Council Organization announced that during the crackdown on the January protests, approximately 25,000 injured people sought treatment at medical centers, around 13,000 surgeries were performed nationwide, and more than 5,000 physicians and specialists, along with over 60,000 healthcare workers, took part in treating the injured.

Mohammad Raiszadeh, President of the Iranian Medical Council Organization, said in an interview with the newspaper Etemad on Saturday, February 6, 2026, that during the January protests a large number of severely injured individuals—particularly those with eye injuries—were transferred to Farabi Hospital. He added that numerous orthopedic, general, and vascular injuries were also recorded.

This comes as Iran Human Rights, a Norway-based organization, published a report on February 2, 2026, documenting widespread human rights violations by the Islamic Republic in Iran’s medical centers.

According to the report, a collection of firsthand testimonies from doctors and medical staff in various Iranian cities received by Iran Human Rights indicates that during the crackdown on the January protests, the Islamic Republic turned hospitals and medical centers into “part of the killing and repression machinery.”

The report also includes accounts of the deliberate killing of wounded protesters, the abduction of injured individuals from hospital beds, the arrest of medical personnel, the denial of medical treatment to citizens, and the mass burial of those killed.

Prior to the release of this report, numerous accounts had emerged describing injured citizens’ fear of seeking treatment at hospitals.

In his recent interview, Raiszadeh said that following a call encouraging the injured to seek medical care, more than 3,000 people presented themselves at medical centers.
