US President Donald Trump blamed Iran for the attack on US embassy in Baghdad on Tuesday, making Iran accountable for any harm against Americans.

“Iran will be held fully responsible for lives lost, or damage incurred, at any of our facilities. They will pay a very BIG PRICE! This is not a Warning, it is a Threat. Happy New Year!” Trump tweeted.

Dozens of angry Shiite militias backed by Iran smashed on Tuesday the main door of American embassy compound in Baghdad, setting the reception area on fire.

Tensions raised since pro-Iran militias killed an American contractor in a rocket attack in Kirkuk earlier this week. US has conducted “defensive strikes” in response, killing at least 25 militants and wounding dozens more.

The Pentagon dispatched two AH-64 Apache helicopters to fly over the embassy in a show of force yesterday. There were reports of the presence of 100 Marines already in the region sent to the embassy compound.
