A bloody clash between the pro-Assad regime fighters in Syria and an Iranian-backed group leaved at least 85 dead and thousands more injured during the clash, which broke out on Friday in Aleppo, Turkish Yeni Shafak news agency reported.

Shabiha militias, who support Assad regime and Shiite militias backed by Iran have been fighting over territory under their control.

“Former spokesman for Free Syrian Army (FSA) faction Jaish al-Mujahideen Zekeriya Mollahafchi described the clashes as an unofficial fight of the demographics between Iran and Russia,” wrote the report.

Both Iran and Russia seek their own interests in the future of Syria as they have been tremendously investing in the Syrian war.

Mollahafchi explained that a new law passed by Assad’s regime has promised the property of the opposition to the foreign fighters. The law is seen as an encouragement for further looting accepted by law and an obstacle for the Syrians to return home.
