The suspicious death of prominent anti-regime poet, Hassan Haidari, sparked protests in Ahvaz and his family members are reportedly under constant pressure from authorities, sources told Avatoday.

Haidari was poisoned and died in hospital. People in Ahvaz have accused the intelligence forces to be behind his sudden and suspicious death. Haidari was arrested previously for his anti-regime poems.

His brother, Hussein Haidari, has announced that their father was forced by security forces to deny intelligence agency’s involvement in his son’s death.

He has also claimed that his uncle is arrested because he didn’t agree to cooperate with the security forces.

Hundreds of people in Ahvaz showed their anger earlier this week to the suspicious death of Haidari, who was known to write against the situation in his home town.

There have been other cases of suspicious deaths of Ahvazi writers and poets in the past, which also sparked protests among the Arab citizens.

Haidari’s relatives told Avatoday that he was only 29-years-old and has no sign of illnesses.

“He was young and healthy, and had no record of medical problems or heart problems. They poisoned him to death,” one of his relative told Avatoday on condition of anonymity, accusing Iranian intelligence forces of Haidari’s sudden death.
