According to the reports received by Avatoday, the local bureau of the Ministry of Intelligence (known as Etelaat) executed 9 Arab activists on Sunday in Ahvaz southwestern Iran.

The announced hangings carried out as judiciary accused these activists of being behind a military parade attack last year on September 22, 2018, which killed a number of Iranian forces.

Last week, local and international human right organizations warned about the imminent executions of 30 Arab activists, following a statement by the head of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps of Khuzestan province.

One month after the military parade incident, Avatoday had cited security sources inside the country, saying that the attack was actually a tailor-made scenario by the intelligence service of the IRGC to play the role of victim of terror ahead of a United Nations General Assembly meeting, where Iran has been accused of sponsoring terrorism in the region.

Last week Ahvaz Human Rights Organization published a report warning that, “the families of the detained Arab activists are still concerned that the security forces have tortured them to confess in secret detention centers of Ministry of Intelligence and in the course of a vague and uncertain judicial procedure, heavy sentences could have been issued against them by judiciary, a problem that has happened to many Arab activists in recent years.”
