The Washington DC-based nonprofit institute of the Social Progress Imperative has recently published its 2019 social progressive index results, in which Iran ranks 86 among 189 countries.
According to the report which is published in the official website of Social Progressive Imperative, Iran has earned a score of 65.15 on the social progress index.
The index ranges between zero (the worst) and one hundred (the best).
“The Social Progress Index is the first holistic measure of a country’s social performance that is independent of economic factors. The index is based on a range of social and environmental indicators that capture three dimensions of social progress: Basic Human Needs, Foundations of Wellbeing, and Opportunity.” The Social Progress Imperative has declared.
According to the 2019 results, the condition of social progress in Iran indicates a subtle improvement during the past few years, but not in all areas.
In 2014, Iran had acquired a score of 61.63 that ranked it 91 among 149 countries.
The report said that the best indicators of Iran’s social progress include nutrition condition, health, access to safe water, and access to primary education.
But indicators such as individual and social freedoms, access to higher education, environmental status, and the right to choose in life among the Iranians are at a very low level, with scores ranging from 30 to 54.
Iran ranks 142 out of 189 countries in terms of press censorship. Regarding the freedom of religious minorities or the freedom of religious beliefs, Iran stands as low as it ranks for the press censorship.
