A US federal court in New York ruled that Tehran can be held responsible for the actions committing by Yemen’s Houthis militias, who are backed financially, militarily and ideologically by Iranian regime, al-Arabiya reported on Sunday.
Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps, which are implementing Iran’s military and interventionist agendas outside of the country, has been designated previously by US as a foreign terrorist organization.
The federal court decided to compensate American citizens who had suffered as a result of operations carried out by pro-Iran Houthis. It also ruled that the compensation money would likely come from Iranian assets that Washington has seized as a part of its sanctions against Tehran.
At least two Americans were kidnapped by Houthis in 2015. The families of the victim will be compensated using Iranian money as Tehran counts responsible for the militants’ actions against US civilians.
