Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on Sunday revealed the country’s budget plan for next year, indicating that the new “budget of resistance” will be less dependent on oil but on a Russian loan of $5bn.

“Next year, like this year, our budget is a budget of resistance against sanctions. We show the World through this budget that we run the country despite the sanctions especially in term of oil sanctions,” Rouhani has reportedly said during parliament’s opening session on Sunday.

Iran has been facing huge internal pressures due to the financial difficulties in the past few years. The outcomes of the sanctions were especially visible during nationwide protests in November as thousands of people demonstrated against unemployment and poverty.

Iranian authorities killed hundreds of protesters and arrested more than 7000 people. The country had shut down internet and wounded thousands of Iranians during November protests.

Rouhani has noted on Sunday that the next Iranian budget will benefit from a $5bn Russian loan.

The next Iranian fiscal year or what is called Persian New Year begins 20 March.
