Reports from Iran on Monday, February 23, indicate that protest gatherings continued for a third consecutive day at several universities in Tehran and Mashhad, along with a demonstration at Isfahan University of Technology.

Throughout the three days of protests — which began with the start of the new academic term — students have chanted harsh slogans against the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic, Ali Khamenei.

According to videos and images shared on social media and student Telegram channels, a significant number of female students stood without the mandatory hijab, clapping and chanting “Woman, Life, Freedom.”

Students also chanted slogans including: “We didn’t give our lives to compromise, to praise a murderous leader,” as well as “Don’t be afraid, don’t be afraid, we are all together.” The gathering, announced in advance, began at 11 a.m. on Monday in front of the Faculty of Arts.

A video circulating online shows the flag of the Islamic Republic being burned and torn at Alzahra University, while students chanted “Death to the Islamic Republic” and “Death to Pahlavi.”

According to published footage, female students at Alzahra University held a large protest outside the eastern gate of the campus, and “all entrances and exits were blocked by security forces.”

Eyewitnesses reported that “almost no one present at the protest could leave, and even returning to dormitories was not possible. Security personnel were continuously filming and photographing the students, and a phone number was repeatedly calling participants.”

Students at Sharif University of Technology also gathered on Monday to commemorate those killed in the January protests and to protest against the Islamic Republic, chanting: “This year is the year of blood; Seyed Ali will be overthrown.”

A Telegram channel affiliated with University of Tehran reported that some students had been barred from entering the campus and that a heavy security atmosphere prevailed.

During the demonstrations, students chanted numerous slogans, including “Woman, Life, Freedom,” “Death to the dictator,” and “Death to Khamenei, death to Pahlavi.”
