Hundreds of Kurds across Iranian Kurdistan gathered in Mariwan on Sunday to attend the first anniversary commemoration of four Kurdish environmentalists, who lost their lives in a suspicious incident.

Sharif Bavajour, Omid Kohnepushi, Mohammad Pazhohi and Rahmat Hakiminia, the four environmentalists from the Kurdish city of Mariwan died in a middle of a forest fire.

Activists and local residents accused Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of broking the fire purposefully and murdering the four environmental activists.

At the time of the incident, several eyewitnesses told Avatoday that they had heard gunfire and saw several unidentified people fleeing the area right after the death of Sharif Bavajour and his colleagues.

Bavajour was also one of the most prominent civil activists who was biking form Marivan to Iran’s capital of Tehran in support of the Kurdish Kolbars, who were killed by Iranian border guards, and to separate the message of peace.

He was highlighting the situation of Kurdish cross-border porters (Kolbars) on his ways to Tehran’s Azadi Square.
