At least 17 people died and 74 more injured as heavy floods hit the Southern Iranian city of Shiraz on Monday, officials confirmed.
“Six men, seven women, three boys and one girl are dead,” said the provincial legal medicine department in Shiraz.
Iran’s Emergency Department has also announced that at least 74 people injured today in Shiraz as severe floods destroyed the city’s main roads, streets and shopping areas.
Source told Avatoday that at least two people killed in Sarpole Zahab and one died in Lorestan.
People of Iran’s Sarpole Zahab, who lost their houses in a deadly earthquake two years ago, were stuck inside their tents on Monday as heavy floods hit the city.
Massive floods hit Northern and southern parts of the country, causing a serious national crisis. Hundreds of houses and cars were destroyed and tens of livestock killed in the flooded areas.
Iranian government is highly criticized for its lack of ability to handle the flood crisis.
The authorities have also banned national celebrities from directly raising aids to the victims.
