Awatoday has learned that Fariborz Heydari, an environmental photographer, has been arrested by the military–security forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Fariborz Heydari was arrested on January 27, 2026, at his residence in Tehran by agents of Iran’s Ministry of Intelligence. As of now, no information is available regarding his whereabouts or condition.
Meanwhile, HRANA News Agency, the media outlet of the U.S.-based Human Rights Activists (HRA), has reported that Iranian authorities have arrested more than 50,000 people during the suppression of nationwide protests, with new arrests continuing.
According to HRANA’s report, published on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at least 50,235 individuals have been detained in connection with the recent protests.
The report states that among these cases there have been 106 student arrests, 303 instances of forced confessions, and 11,046 summonses. It also documents 666 protest-related incidents across 209 cities in 31 provinces.
