According to reports by the Coordinating Council of Iranian Teachers’ Trade Associations, Jalal Faramarzi, a Kurdish teacher from Ilam, was summoned to the Intelligence Department of the IRGC after publishing a protest video and calling for a nationwide strike. He was summoned on January 13, 2026.

Informed sources report that he was interrogated for several hours, refused to record a forced confession video and to sign a written pledge, and as a result, a judicial case has been opened against him. It is also worth noting that his electronic devices were confiscated without a legal warrant.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, intelligence forces raided the private home of Ali Imani Motlagh, a teacher from Lorestan, and arrested him. So far, no information has been released regarding the charges against him, the reasons for his arrest, or his place of detention.

Over the past century, teachers in Iranian Kurdistan have faced widespread and systematic repression for demanding national rights, raising awareness about the legitimate rights of Kurds, pursuing professional and labor rights, advocating for equitable education, and protesting structural discrimination.

Security summonses, arbitrary arrests, harsh prison sentences, forced exile, and threats against family members are among the pressures imposed by security institutions on Kurdish teachers.

These measures are not only aimed at silencing professional and civil dissent, but are also part of broader policies to suppress identity and civil demands in Kurdistan—policies that, by securitizing educational and civic activities, seriously threaten academic freedom, teachers’ professional dignity, and the future of students in the region.
