According to a report received by Avatoday, Keyomars Vaezi, a retired Kurdish teacher, was arrested on Monday, January 5, 2026, in front of his private residence in the city of Sonqor, located in Kermanshah Province in Iranian Kurdistan, by plainclothes security agents.
Reports indicate that the agents refused to present a judicial warrant and told his wife, who protested the arrest, that they were not required to provide one.
In recent days, some judicial sources had claimed that this teacher had been released; however, these claims have been denied. According to the latest information, Keyomars Vaezi remains in detention and is currently being held at Dizel-Abad Prison in Kermanshah.
Keyomars Vaezi was forcibly retired in 2022 after 27 years of teaching service. In the same year, he was sentenced by the Revolutionary Court to six years in prison on charges including “propaganda against the regime” and “incitement of the public.”
The Coordinating Council of Iranian Teachers’ Trade Associations, while expressing its support for this retired teacher, emphasized that arrest, imprisonment, and repression will never prevent teachers from pursuing their legal and professional demands, and that security pressure cannot silence their voices.
