The first commander of Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), Javad Mansuri said the eight years Iran-Iraq war served Islamic Republic of Iran, allowing the revolution to survive.

Mansuri spoke to Iran’s State Media in an interview, broadcasted in the Islamic Revolutions’ 40th anniversary.

‘’If Iran-Iraq war didn’t happen, the Islamic Revolution wouldn’t survive,” he claimed on Sunday.

The Iran-Iraq war began from1980 to 1988 left some 1.5 million deaths from both sides.

Opposition parties blame Islamic Republic for prolonging the war in order to survive.

Today as the country is suffering severe financial crisis and the Islamic republic is on the verge of collapse, activists and opposition groups believe that the regime is about to start another war in the region for Tehran’s own sake.
